Accident Sparks Reissuance of Ammonium Nitrate Safety Guidelines

An accident earlier this month involving a tanker truck carrying ammonium nitrate exploded on a rural Arkansas highway, killing the driver.  A report suggests that the brakes on the truck may have overheated, ignited, causing a fire and subsequent explosion.

The Fertilizer Institute has reissued an ammonium nitrate storage and handling guide originally published by the Agricultural Retailers Association in 2014 and has hence been updated last year. A copy of the updated guidance may be found here.  A special thanks to TFI and ARA for their work on this valuable publication.
