Farm Bill Deadline Extended Amid Possibility of Government Shutdown

CropLife America reports that House Agriculture chairman Glenn Thompson announced that he believes the lifespan of the 2018 Farm bill will have to be extend temporarily because Congress will miss the September 30 deadline for reauthorization.

The CLA Government Relations team remains heavily involved in this process and was informed that the House will try and move the Farm Bill through the Agriculture Committee in September and that Title I (commodity programs) language is complete. There has been no confirmation from the Senate regarding timing. In terms of an impending government shutdown, congressional leaders on both sides have expressed a willingness to push-off the September 30th deadline to fund the government, thus delaying a shutdown until winter.
